WAGE: $16.38/hour
JOB TITLE: Seasonal Tree Inventory Technician, Summer Position
DEPARTMENT: Forestry
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the City Forester
SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: None
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Uses tree inventory software to perform routine identification, inspection, and inventory of publicly owned trees. Works in the field or office. As well as other general duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Assist in updating, and surveying public trees for, city and parks tree inventory.
- Measure height and diameter of trees
- Identify genus and species of tree accurately by both common and scientific name (or have the knowledge to correctly use a dichotomous key to obtain this information)
- Assess overall health and condition of trees
- Identify and describe all defects or hazards present in the canopy, trunk, or roots of the tree
- Identify and describe all utility, hardscape, and construction conflict or damage
- Assist in surveying for diseases and infestation of trees such as:
- Dutch Elm Disease
- Bronze Birch Borer
- Japanese Beetle
- Needle Cast
- Root Rot
- Scales
- Set and routinely inspect insect traps and lures
- Maintain records of location of and insect counts at each trap
- Other duties as assigned
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years of age
Have a current driver’s license.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Basic computer skills.
Preferred but not required: Experience, knowledge, or general background in horticulture, arboriculture, forestry, or similar.
